Carel ir33 Controller - Spares Replacement

Product Group: Refrigeration
Content: CAREL SKOPE ir33 Controller - Spares Replacement of Electronic Controller
Issue Date: 19/0/2008
Bulletin No: SB0029
Revision: 1.0 (Current version of this bulletin)

SKOPE has developed in partnership with Carel an exclusive new high powered custom featured refrigeration electronic controller; based on the IR33 platform.
The new Controller is universal and suitable for all SKOPE applications. It is being gradually phased in to replace a variety of controllers including obsoleted Dixell controllers.
The new controller offers flexibility, so that it may be design-configured by SKOPE to operate in a simple basis, or it may be set up to utilise advanced features. The design set-up is factory fixed and cannot be altered.

The root part number = ELZ3333x….. (x is variable and denotes controller version. Not relevant to servicing). This is followed by “P” indicating the programme number.

The Controller cannot be interchanged with a standard CAREL IR33 controller.

Replacement Controllers must be pre-programmed; there are several programme variations that are not interchangeable.

The controller must be SKOPE factory programmed for the correct application = “P---“
Within each Program Mode are field adjustable. These may be viewed by entering the SKOPE password of “66”. Non-useful parameters are hidden. Changes to SKOPE Factory Default programmes are not recommended.

Only useful parameters are displayed. The majority of parameters are permanently hidden.

Field Diagnostics of CAREL SKOPE ir33 Refrigeration Controller

If the Controller has a suspected fault, care must be taken to ensure accurate diagnosis (often controller faults are mis-diagnosed). The Controller has various programmable parameters that effect operation such as time delays and defrost modes. Any suspected failure must be double-checked. Confirm all wiring and terminations are correct. If operation appears erratic, perform a “Controller Reset” as detailed below #2.

Replacement of CAREL SKOPE ir33 Refrigeration Controller

It is Important that the controller program is identified correctly to enable a replacement controller to be processed.

1. Identify the controller program.

All SKOPE electronic controllers have a specific program related to the operation of the refrigeration system. This program is identified via the use of a label adhered to top of the controller itself and / or the top of the controllers sheetmetal housing.

A generic spares controller has been created to cover as many variations as possible. This spares controller can be identified by the suffix “SP1”. All other replacement controllers have specific parameter requirements and are identified by their program number.

All Spares replacement controllers must have a Controller Reset as per #2

Refer to #3 below for parameter details specific to the “SP1” controller.

Refer to #4 below for parameter details for the “460 & 462 program” controller.

2. ALL Replacement Controllers - Perform Controller Reset – bn1 Parameter Set

Note: After a controller Reset the cabinet lights may be off; if this is the case press and hold the
Up/AUX button for three seconds, release button for 3 seconds, and then again (for a second time),
Press and hold Up/AUX button. The lights should then continue to work correctly.

3. “SP1” CAREL SKOPE ir33 only

Listed below are the instructions on how to change the parameters to update the SP1 controller to the
correct parameters in relation to original program. Only the listed parameters below will need to be
modified.

Note: Unauthorised control parameter changes other than those listed below will void any warranty
and SKOPE liability.

4. 460, 462 CAREL SKOPE ir33 only

These controllers use multiple program sets (to enable selection from basic operating mode to
Automatic power saving modes); due to this complexity it is recommended that the controller is
replaced with program like for like, and then no program changes are required.

For Servicing it is important to refer to “Technicians Manual MAN6294”
