Earth Day at SKOPE

Team members across the whole of SKOPE celebrated Earth Day with an All Staff webinar session. Earth Day was on April 22^nd and is a day to highlight environmental issues across our planet and is now a global movement. SKOPE team members wanted to come together to learn about how to do things better.

This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in our Planet”, so at SKOPE we have committed to investing time. Our staff were encouraged to spend time learning about environmental issues and cleaning up their environment.

We also held a Rubbish Pick Up event where members across the organisation were encouraged to take 15 minutes of their work day to go outside and pick up rubbish in their local neighbourhood.

Our team members were shocked to find that there was a lot of rubbish in their neighbourhood when they stopped to look. We found all sorts of types of rubbish, including beverage containers, balloons, takeaway food wrappers, and even a dumped car seat (which can be recycled by the way).

At the Ōtautahi Christchurch factory site, we collected two full wheelie bins of rubbish from the local streets.

There was a great discussion about the difference between Australia and New Zealand where Australia has a cash for containers scheme and New Zealand does not.
